A DAY BY DAY REVIEW OF UBSTUDIOS CORRESPONDENT STUBOY.
DAY TWO:
Monday January 21, 2008.
Today was less eventful than yesterday, but still
was a pretty big day for me at Sundance 2008. I arrived in Park City at 12:30 PM
to see a panel discussion on comedy. Now, I have no idea what happened, but I
some how ended up at the wrong theater. I drove to the Racquet Club Theater and
found a parking space in a residential neighborhood and walked into the theater.
There were only a dozen or so people there, waiting for some film. I looked down
at my ticket and said "AH!" I'm at the wrong theater. By then it was 1:30 or so.
I hurried across town through ridiculous traffic and started a hunt for a
parking space near the correct theater, the Prospector Square theater. A half an
hour passes and I find a spot and walk to the theater. 30 minutes later, after
waiting in the line, I enter the theater.
The panel featured: Jason Reitman (director of Juno/Thank You For Smoking),
Clark Gregg, Pam Brady (producer/writer of South Park), Larry Gross
(Screenwriter of Prozac Nation), Taika Waititi, Mariana Palka, and finally Jay
and Mark Duplass, in that order from right to left. It was very informative and
funny. Comedy is alive and well in Hollywood.
The following is a selection of pictures from the event, the first of which is a panorama taken by my camera (it has a feature that does this). The people are in order as they are above, starting with Jason on the far right. Again, to see hi-def versions, click on the picture.
Here is a short movie recorded during the event for your viewing pleasure. http://www.ubstudios.com/images/Sundance2008/comedypanel.mov (5MB Quicktime).
After the event was over, and I had stepping in freezing water, I took a (several) stroll of Main street, parking where I did last year, so odd! When I was heading north on Main street the first time, I passed Felicity Huffman (sp?) and didn't even know it until some girls pointed it out. By then she was too far away and I'm not the type to go bother a celebrity. I'm sure she gets it all the time. When I made it down to the end of the main street I saw the Aussie director from yesterday, and found a neat fire pit and decided to dry my pants off for a second. Some guy comes up to me and asks if I want my picture taken of myself and I said sure. Fearing he'd run off with my camera, I prepare to run, but the dude takes the picture, and then asks me to do the same for him. Nice feller, fart smeller. On my second time back up main street, I was greeted by paparazzi who clambered to get a picture of me since I was in Melonhead Vision, what stu calls "my breakout role." I said hea, and the paparazzi began publishing a rumor that Maria Bello and I were dating (I wish). There were so many damn photographers there, it was hard to fight them off. Below is the madness that is/was/will be every year... Main Street Park City. The first picture is looking south, the second north. The third picture is the famous Egyptian, and guess what the fourth one is.
A stu being interviewed. A truck promoting a film showing at Slamdance, which is going on at the same time as Sundance. Finally, the Ehea True Hollywood Story of Stuboy, being videotaped. Here, two hot chicks and a gay guy are discussing how they loved Melonhead Vision. They had no idea I was standing near them, must have been the cap I was wearing, nobody recognized me :D.
Tuesday I took a break from "festing" as I had classes but Wednesday I attempted (at this point) to see the new Morgan Spurlock documentary "Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden." Check out day four for more festival action, and possibly more celebs. Sorry that so far you've only had me to look at, hea.
