Central Idaho DX - January 2011

Got anything at all to say about either radio towers or scanner frequencies, or anything related to radio in general, here's where you go.

Today, I got 1380 KTKZ, Sacramento, CA, N/T. It was coming in fairly clear this evening.

Ell, tonight I got 1140 KYDZ, North Las Vegas, NV, Childrens. I didn't hear them say radio Disney but I heard some annoying kid talking between shitty Jonahs Brothers type music. Not many stations play that shitty hea stuff on 1140.

1140 isn't Radio Disney. I don't know what network it is but I know it isn't RD. They are a regular visitor here at night.

Freedom isn't free. No, theres a hefty fuckin' fee. And if you didn't get 970 KXFD, Portland, OR, Talk, then who will. I got Freedom 970 tonight pretty clearly.

Ell it's been a little slow here lately. My Nevada/Arizona DX isn't picking up much. Maybe time to try California. Anyway, I did get 820 WBAP, Fort Worth, TX, N/T tonight. Was coming in and out but I heard the ID and everything.

Ell, tonight I got a station that I have been trying to get for a long time. It came in during what seems like a hurricane going on outside. Rain and wind like crazy. The weather has sure been weird here. Global Warming?

Anyway, 650 KGAB, Orchard Valley, WY, N/T

Ell, today I filled on of the few remaining gaps. I am 80% sure I got 1610 WQBV569, Yakima, WA, WASDOT HAR. I am 100% sure it is from Washington because I heard her say the Washington Department of Transportation many times. She also IDed many times and I could make out WQB..56... This is the only station with that call sign and number configuration on that frequency. It doesn't show up on FCC but other DXers in WA have received it. HEA HEA HEA.

Hea, you heard WPKV296 but actually a lot of stations like this still ID falsely. The two in Rock Springs do this a lot. One reads the wrong ID.

WPKV296 is from Toppenish, WA, which is southeast of Yakima, but still in the same county. It is the only one in Yakima County.

It is only 10 watts, but I did read online that others have received it. It is approximately 200 air miles from Grangeville, but it is possible.

I dont believe you heard a HAR from Yakima, HARs travel a couple miles at best. That is like hearing Milo FM in Casper.

I am 15 miles or so from the RS one and it is weak here, but better on the car radios. SLC had a HAR on 760 when I first moved down there and it was loud and clear in the dorms, about 5-10 miles away. It is possible but I am starting to wonder if you heard something closer, like an Idaho HAR on the border. There are a few HARs on 1610 that are closer.
