Dennis DeYoung and the Music of STYX

Postby Kaing of Kaings » September 3rd, 2010, 4:58 pm

A week ago on August 27th 2010, my woman and I went to stinktown USA, AKA Lewiston, ID and saw the one and dorky, Dennis DeYoung, who is best known as one of the founders of the rock band STYX and for writing such songs as Mr. Roboto and Lady.

The concert was an outside concert and part of the Lewiston summer concert series called Hot August Nights. The night after DeYoung, Rick Springfield came in town and stunk up the place with his massive gas. We missed that one. DeYoung probably farted on too, but the Lewiston Stink covered up the smell. He also had two rocking guitarists that were cover farting for DeYoung when his flatch got week. We were close enough to the stage to see just how old and dorky DeYoung was without smelling the flatch. He looked like a dorky rocking grandpa up there, flanked by two long haired guitarists.

DeYoung opened the concert with some of his hits like Rockin in Paradise, Lady, Babe and many other STYX hits. He then slowed the show down and played one of my favorite STYX songs, Show Me The Way. After that he lightened up and said he hadn't been to Idaho for 12 years or something. I bet the STYX band touring with Tommy Shaw has been in Idaho since then, but that is another point.

Later, he played one of his solo career songs that I have never heard of and then went back to STYX. He played almost all of his hits including some that were written by Tommy Shaw like Too Much Time On My Hands and Blue Collar Man.

Overall, it was a good night and a good concert. I could have gone without the drunkards stumbling around and the stupid Hessian's smoking in front of us, but that is part of life. 4 out of 5 stars. I would definitely go and see him again. He will have even older balls then.

Yep, this is how dorky this concert was. But he still rocks.

Yea, that was the song he played. Wasn't bad but I wasn't familiar with it.
