The Best and Worst of 2007

Postby Kaing of Kaings » February 4th, 2008, 2:38 pm

Yes, it's that time of year again. The time when we reflect back on the progress (or lack of progress) of film and movies of last year. The rules are simple, you make a list of your top movies and your worst movies of last year. And so, here is mine with 1 being the best and the high there number is least best and so forth. Hea.

1. There Will Be Blood
2. 300
3. Into the Wild
4. Superbad
5. No Country for Old Men
6. 3:10 to Yuma
7. Beowulf
8. Zodiac
8. (Tie) Spider-Man 3
9. American Ganster
10. The Mist
11. Live Free or Die Hard
12. Grindhous
12.(tie) Mongol
13. Juno
14. The Kingdom
15. Rendition

There was a surprisingly good number of good films this year and it was difficult making the list above. That being said, there was nothing that blew me away like Children of Men did last year but 300 came close. 300 was a movie where I came out completely satisfied which is rare these days. That is the reason it is number one on my list. This list is subject to change with viewings of other movies. Some films don't age well after subsequent viewings so the list could change for that reason too.

The next category I present are last years best documentaries. As many can tell from this site, we like Michael Moore here. I know that makes all you flaming conservatives pissed off but last year, Moore made one of his most important films to date, SiCKO. You must ask yourself, who in this country (USA) is really happy with their healthcare. I don't know about you but I think it is a sad situation when someone choses money over life in a "for profit" health care system. But I digress, here it is, short but sweet.

1. SiCKO
2. No End in Sight
3. A Flock of Dodos (originally released in 2006 but not fully until 2007)

Now for the best of TV. 2007 was the year that HBO and Showtime took over with the shows Big Love, Californiacation , Curb your EnthusiasmThe Tudors and Flight of the Conchords, TV was starting to peak and within a year, Breaking Bad would show up and blow everything else out of the water.

1. Flight of the Conchords - Season 1 (Comedy Gold and songs from New Zealand
1. (Tie) Mythbusters - Season 5 (This show can do no wrong at this point. My first TV girlfriend Kari Byron appears)
2. Californiacation - Season 1 (David Dechovny gets his oates on)
2 (Tie). Big Love - Season 2 (Bill Paxton gets his oates on, see a pattern here?)
2. (Tie) Curb your Enthusiasm - Season 6
2. (Tie) Long Way Down - Ewan McGregor and Charlie head on down to Africa. Another cant journey.
3. Family Guy - Season 6
3. (Tie) Everest: Beyond the Limit- Season 2
4. Deadliest Catch - Season 3 (The show starts to get repetitive here)
4. South Park - Season 11
5. The Tudors - Season 1 (Henry VIII gets his oates on)
6. Man Vs Wild - (Man vs Wild vs Ahguy vs Predator vs...)
7. Survivorman - Season 2

I didn't see many documentaries for this year but this list could grow in time. Now it's time for the worst of 2008. There weren't many that I saw that down right sucked, but that is probably due to my new policy of trying to stay away from bad films. Here is the list, 1 being the worst.

1. Secret Space (What is NASA Hiding...NOTHING) (Documentary but this one blows goats)
2. Shrek 3 - (Shrek must DIE Hard)
3. Music and Lyrics - (Poop Goes my Heart)
4. Reign Over Me - (Bore You Over)
5. I am Legend - (I am Stupid Movie)
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World End - (Butt Pirates of the Tired Series: At Ballsac's End)
7. The Simpsons Movie - (Hasn't been funny for years...why make a movie?)
8. The Heartbreak Kid - (The Fartbreak Kid)
9. No Reservations - (Typical Chick Flick)
10. Knocked Up - (Overrated)
Harry: " Whoa, Jesus, Check out the butt on that one."

Lloyd: "He must work out."

God stu, almost half of your worst movies were made in some other year. The rules are they need to be from 2007 although I agree with most of your worst list. AUUAHUUAAHHUAA SHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

So. I didn't see many bad movies last year, since, like you, I stayed away from bad movies. I said "includes netflatch". Gay!

God you two are Kang. And unlike you Stus I dont see that many movies in the theater, maybe a dozen a year or so. These are the ones I can remember seeing in 2007 ranked best to most mediocre. I tend not to see real bad movies, because if they were bad why would I waste my $ on them.

1) The Bourne Ultimatum
2) Superbad
3) Children of Men
4) The Last Kang of Scotland
5) Little Miss Sunshine
6) Kite Runner
7) Borat
8) Knocked Up
9) The Pursuit of Happyness
10) Sicko
11) Disturbia
12) Juno

I have yet to see a movie in the theater this year, though I do want to see "No Country for Old Manthas" and "There will be Blood", but I just havent gotten around to it yet.
Oh Leeroy what a knockout!
