The Best and Worst of 2009

Postby Kaing of Kaings » March 15th, 2010, 9:49 pm

It's that time of year again. The year where you put another nail in the coffin of the previous year by remembering all the great and shitty experiences you went through. In this case, I will rank the 2009 movies I saw (which were a lot) and give them their just deserts. 2009 was overall a pretty good year for film I thought. Kind of like 1989 and 1999 were good movie years, years ending in 9 must have something about them. Now 2009 wasn't as good as 1989 or 1999 but considering all the shit that came out between 2000 and 2009, it was up there. Without wasting your time here come the top 15 of 2009. This is as always, subject to change if I see movies or I re-see movies and realize they suck and I was drunk or just plain stu when I saw them.

1. Inglourious Basterds - QT at his Best
2. Up - You really can't beat Pixar
3. Avatar - R U an Avatard?
4. Up in the Air - Touching in a Touching way.
5. Zombieland - Woody Harrelson with a Chainsaw wielding babe
6. District 9 - Good Job Sharlto and Blomkamp
7. A Christmas Carol - Zemekis back without people
8. Crazy Heart - Crazy Fart
9. Away We Go - Away We Blow
10. Invictus - Maaattt DAAAAMOON
11. I Love You Man - Hea
12. The Hangover - Hea 2
13. Paranormal Activity - Ghost Farts in the Night
14. Sherlock Holmes - Elementary My Dear Buki
15. Watchmen - Captain Blue Balls

Now on to the documentary section. 2009 was an exceptional year for good documentaries. In fact, The Cove and Food Inc who were up for best Doc at the Oscars were pretty damn good and I really didn't care who won. Michael Moore came out with another good one which is really important in these times.

1. The Cove
1. (Tie) Food Inc.
2. Capitalism - A Love Story
3. Outrage
4. IOUSA (actually 2008 but really good and saw it last year)
5. No Impact Man

Now into the best of TV in 2009. Breaking Bad was just hitting it's stride and some old favorites like Big Love and Curb made a comeback this year.

1. Breaking Bad - Season 2 (Walter White will know his own name)
2. Californiacation - Season 3 (Lot's of balling going on)
3. Big Love - Season 3 (Bill Paxton needs to get his shit together)
3. (Tie) Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 7
4. Mythbusters - Season 7 (Still love the show but when your swimming through syrup, you may have jumped the shark!)
5. Flight of the Chonchords - Season 2 (Can't quite capture the magic of the first season)
6. Family Guy - Season 8
7. True Blood - Season 2 (Sookie, you still need to suckie)
8. South Park - Season 13 (The last year I watched every episode I think?)
9. Everest: Beyond the Limit - Season 3 (Massive Diarrhea breaks out at the top of the world)

Now onto the fun part. Bashing the shit that came out last year. We all know Michael Bay released the sequel to some big Robot movie so you know there will be some suck in there. Without further ado, here goes shit.

1. Observe and Report - (Observe and Suck)
2. Fired Up - (F&*Ked Up)
3. Friday the 13th - (Nice boobs-dumb story)
4. Couples Retreat - (Couple Stink)
5. Transformers Revenge of the Ballen - (Movies for the Stu)
6. Surrogates - (Sorry Jonathan Mostow, Director Jail for You)
7. State of Play - (State of Boredom)
8. Public Enemies - (Sorry Michael Mann,, Director Jail for You)
9. The Blind Side - (Just because it got an Oscar Nom and its a Hallmark Movie)
10. Duplicity - (Stuplicity)
11. Dogtooth - (Not terrible but weird and don’t need to see it again)

Alright, there you go. I look forward to seeing your list Stuboy. I plan on making a best of the Aughts list which should be interesting. A look at the past 10 years of film and the stain in your underwear.
Harry: " Whoa, Jesus, Check out the butt on that one."

Lloyd: "He must work out."
